Een symposium over de waarde van de dansvloer als vrijplaats voor gemarginaliseerde gemeenschappen. Met presentaties, kunst, muziek en meer…

Toen het nachtleven, ongeveer 100 jaar geleden, haar oorsprong vond in de roaring 20’s, ontstond er voor het eerst in de geschiedenis een plek waar iedereen van alle rangen en standen gelijk was. De dansvloer was een plek waar iedereen voor een nacht lang totale vrijheid en waardering vond en zich tot op de dag van vandaag op iedere denkbare wijze kan uiten. Vanuit deze plek hebben in de decennia erna, veelal gemarginaliseerde groepen (zoals de zwarte gemeenschap in de jaren ’60/70 en de gay-community in de jaren ’80) een plek voor zichzelf gevonden. Vaak was dit een voorbode voor acceptatie van deze groepen door de rest van de samenleving.
Sinds vanaf maart 2020 de dansvloer geen onderdeel meer van ons leven meer uitmaakt, zijn we ons steeds meer gaan beseffen hoezeer wij deze vrijhaven missen en hoe we hem als verbindende factor na anderhalf jaar van afwezigheid weer hard nodig hebben. Het evenement Back to the Dance floor, is een symposium dat diep in deze thematiek duikt en de kracht en waarde van het nachtleven viert.
Vanuit een brede selectie van lokale en internationale perspectieven wordt er tijdens Back To The Dance floor middels presentaties, kunst en natuurlijk muziek ingegaan op de waarde van dit zo ongrijpbare en intrigerende onderdeel van onze samenleving. Het onderwerp wordt van alle kanten benaderd met sprekers uit de hoofdstad van de elektronische muziek Berlijn, tot activisten uit het nachtleven van Tbilisi. Ook kijken we met verschillende partijen naar de lokale situatie in Groningen: hoe behouden we dit soort vrijplaatsen in een snel veranderende stad?
Plaatsen voor dit evenement zijn zeer beperkt, dus verzeker jezelf snel van een kaart om bij dit unieke evenement te zijn!

You mainly realise what you are missing at the moment it’s not there anymore…
When modern nightlife, around 100 years ago, found it’s origin in the roaring 20’s it was for the first time in history that a place came to birth where everyone was equal and accepted no matter where you came from. This place was the dancefloor, a place where everyone could celebrate total freedom and appreciation from then on until our present day. From this place, in the decades following a wide range of marginalised groups (such as the black community in the 60’s/70’s and the gay community in the 80’s) found a place for themselves. These movements eventually always had their influence on general society.
Since the dancefloor has not been a part of our society anymore, we have been realising more and more how much we miss this free space and safe haven. And above all, how much we need this uniting factor in our society after these 1,5 years.
The event Back to the Dancefloor is a symposium that emerges deep into this theme and celebrates the strength and value that the nightlife brings to our society.
The topic will be approached by a wide selection of global perspectives with speakers from Berlin to nightife activists from Tblisi as well as local views from Amsterdam and of course Groningen as the core. Back to the Dancefloor grabs the topic by it’s essence and shows you what you never realised in blend of music, lectures, installations and more!
